OVERVIEW

Nestvault is a risk-free, privacy-first crypto tracker that lets users monitor investments without connecting wallets or exposing their private keys.

The target users for nestvault are:

Beginners: Curious, low-risk users who want a safe entry point into crypto.

Intermediate Users: Traders and casual investors needing insights into multiple wallets.

Expert Investors: Experienced users managing multiple wallets and complex portfolios who prioritize security and real-time tracking.

PROBLEM

The biggest fear of every crypto investor is losing their assets - they lack a way of monitoring their portfolio performance without exposing their wallets to third party platforms.

On the other hand, many investors hesitate to enter crypto due to stories of lost funds, hacks, and forgotten private keys. Security risks and the complexity of managing wallets often make the space feel intimidating and unsafe.

The complexity of wallet management places full responsibility on users, increasing the risk of human error.

They need a tool that will allow them to monitor their portfolio without having to worry about making a costly mistake.

SOLUTION

The solution must address the concerns by removing the need to connect wallets or share sensitive credentials.

Instead, users manually input their holdings, allowing them to track performance without exposing private keys or linking exchange accounts.

By separating portfolio tracking from wallet access, Nestvault creates a safer, more controlled way to monitor crypto investments.

USER RESEARCH

User research for Nestvault focused on deeply understanding the needs, behaviours, and security concerns of the target users.

This involved analysing competitor reviews to identify recurring pain points such as fragmented portfolio tracking, confusing interfaces, and anxiety around wallet permissions.

Additionally, browsing crypto forums and community discussions provided raw, unfiltered insights into user frustrations, trust barriers, and feature requests.

These findings helped shape a solution grounded in clarity, security, and real-world user concerns rather than assumptions.

I condensed them into the following key points which will guide throughout the process of creating Nestvault.

ease of use

USER PERSONAS

The target audience of Nestvault spans a wide spectrum, from curious beginners like Samantha, who are eager to explore crypto but feel intimidated by its complexity, to experienced investors like James, who manage multiple wallets and need a secure, comprehensive way to track their assets.

These users share a common need for clarity, control, and security—whether it’s a first-time user seeking a simple, guided entry point or a seasoned trader looking to consolidate and monitor a diverse portfolio without risking private keys.

Nestvault aims to bridge this gap, offering a solution that is both approachable for newcomers and robust enough for experts.

The user personas present the following pain points

Fragmented Portfolio Management: Users like James struggle to track assets spread across multiple wallets, exchanges, and blockchains.

Beginner Confusion: Users like Samantha & Ignacio find crypto intimidating and need guidance to start safely.

Security Anxiety: Many investors fear connecting wallets to third-party apps, risking private keys or sensitive information.

USER FLOWS

Below are the two main user flows — creating an account to access the app and adding a new wallet to the portfolio.

There process is simple and quick, perfect for beginner investors and people who want peace of mind.

WIREFRAMES

Below are some of the key wireframes.

The screens are easily readable and understandable, only containing essential information and features.

This is perfect for both beginners as it doesn't overwhelm them, and for experienced investors who need to see a larger amount of information presented on a single screen.

DESIGN SYSTEM

The design system presents a sleek, dark mode interface that's easy on the eyes and easily readable.

The typeface consists of Satoshi only due to it's clean, technical feel.

The typography has a clear hierarchy with each level being clearly distinguishable.

The colour palette is based on luminosity, featuring deep purples, greens, reds, and neutral greys.

The component library includes structured wallet and settings cards, clearly differentiated button states (primary, secondary, disabled, loading, and error), filter and time selection controls, toggle switches, progress bars, and form inputs with distinct empty and filled states.

Overall, the system emphasizes usability, and state clarity - making it suited for a modern fintech crypto platform.

HIGH FIDELITY

Below are some of the high-fidelity wireframes, showcasing the core Nestvault experience.

They showcase the login screen, onboarding, and give a glimpse into the tracking process.

These will enable me to create a functioning prototype in order to conduct user research.

The goal of the research will be to gather actionable feedback on usability, and to confirm whether the design suits all target users.

USER TESTING

The key success criteria for user testing were:

Task completion rate (What percentage of users were able to complete the task without moderation?)
Time on task (How long did it take users to complete the task? What caused delays?)

Perceived trust rating (How did using nestvault make users feel? Did they feel relief?)

In order to accurately reflect my target users, I recruited 3 users from each skill bracket.

Group A: 3 Beginners (Little to no crypto knowledge)

Group B: 3 Intermediate Users (Casual investors)

Group C: 3 Expert Investors (Multiple wallets, a lot of experience)

They were presented with the following scenarios

Groups A & B scenario:

“You’ve just started investing in crypto and want to track your first wallet in the app. Show me how you would set this up.”

Group C scenario:
“You manage multiple wallets with different coins and want to track them simultaneously. Show me how you would do that.”

Results:

All users in Group A & B were able to complete their task without assistance in a timely manner.

On average, users from Group B completed the task quicker due to their pre-existing exposure to cryptocurrency.

Users in Group C were also able to complete their task without any issues.

Feedback:

Users were asked to give optional feedback, both negative and positive, after completing their task.

User 1 (Group A) "The process was straight forward and intuitive even thought I had no previous experience."
User 3 (Group A) "I liked how the interface was minimal and calming to the eye."
User 6 (Group B) "When I created my wallet I made a mistake and was unsure about how to fix it."
User 8 (Group C) "I added multiple wallets but was unsure about the total of my investments. … It took me a moment to find it on the dashboard."

The testing was overall successful as all users were able to complete the task and the success criteria were successfully met.

Furthermore, the feedback allowed me to see what user pain points were, and to address them in the next section.

ITERATIONS

Following user testing I received feedback that allowed me to make changes which will make the user's experience better.

Portfolio Total

I moved the total investment value to a more visible location. This will allow users to more easily track their portfolio value.

Note: When switching to the details tab, the total moves back to the previous position in order to still be visible on both tabs.

Percentage Breakdown

I used the empty space to add a percentage breakdown of the portfolio.

This will help users investing in multiple coins get a better view of their portfolio.

Edit Button

Some beginner users expressed confusion about editing wallets.

I changed the edit icon to a button with text to make it more accessible.

BEFORE

AFTER

REFLECTIONS

Nestvault proved to be a successful solution by effectively balancing the needs of both beginner and experienced investors, delivering a secure, intuitive platform that builds trust without sacrificing functionality.

The design validated that a read-only, clarity-focused approach can reduce anxiety for experts while remaining approachable for newcomers. As a result, Nestvault establishes a strong foundational framework that can be expanded with additional educational tools, guided features, and progressive functionality to further support beginners as they grow more confident in their investment journey.
